Job summary

SouthStar is seeking a Medical Assistant to support a patient-focused clinic. You will prepare patients, record vital signs and history, assist in examinations, and help with wound care and injections per provider orders.

Responsibilities include room preparation, specimen collection, lab processing, documenting care in EMR, scheduling tests, and educating patients on treatments. Certification and BLS are preferred; experience preferred; competitive compensation and benefits provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Current Certification as a Medical Assistant (RMA, AAMA, NCCT, CMAC, AMCA) preferred; BLS certification required.
• Minimum of one year of relevant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare exam/treatment rooms, maintain medical supplies and equipment.
• Prepare and administer injections, change dressings, wound management per orders.
• Collect blood, tissue, and other specimens; log results and perform lab call-backs.
• Document patient care in EMR and forms; schedule tests and follow-ups.
• Instruct patients and families on treatment and medication instructions.
• Phlebotomy and opening/closing clinic duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare patients for examination, records vital signs and history, and provides treatment as applicable


• Prepares exam/treatment rooms; select, setup, sterilize, and maintain medical supplies and equipment for procedures


• Prepare and administer injections, change dressings, and facilitate wound management under providers orders


• Collect blood, tissue, and other laboratory specimens through routine in-house testing procedures, and analyze and prepare for testing, log results, and perform lab call-backs


• Document basic patient care and procedures, utilizing appropriate forms and electronic medical records


• Schedule patients for tests, initial, and follow-up appointments if applicable in care setting


• Instructs patients and family regarding treatment and medication instructions


• Collaborate, take direction, and initiate actions that will allow the assumption of cross-functional team actions to ensure seamless patient care


• Phlebotomy


• Perform opening/closing clinic duties and patient call backs


• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Education: High school graduate or equivalent is required.


• Certificate/License: Current Certification as a Medical Assistant through one of the following programs is preferred (RMA, AAMA, NCCT, CMAC, AMCA). Current BLS certification is required.


• Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience is preferred

Compensation: Pay is based on experience, skills and falls within an established range.
