Pediatric Specialists of Virginia (PSV) Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine in Fairfax, VA is seeking an experienced Certified Medical Assistant for a part-time day shift. The MA will support the outpatient clinic, handle patient flow, and assist physicians and nurses in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires strong clinical skills, a current CMA credential, and excellent communication. Experience in pediatrics is desirable; bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited CMA program; CMA/RMA preferred.
  • Current AHA BLS certification is required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • All employees must pass TB, drug screen, and physical exam.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general patient care tasks including checking schedules and managing patient flow.
  • Assist with examinations, specimens collection, phlebotomy, and warming/positioning patients.
  • Organize medical records and ensure necessary information is available to providers.
  • Instruct patients on basic testing requirements and post-visit care.
  • Maintain clinical and environmental standards, clean and restock rooms, and assist with clerical duties.

Overview

PSV has an exciting employment opportunity for an experienced Certified Medical Assistant to join their dedicated team of healthcare professionals!This specific role will be supporting PSV’s Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine OutpatientClinic in our Fairfax, VA location. This position is working part-time day shift hours, days vary. Clinical hours range between 8:00am – 5:00pm.

Pediatric Specialists of Virginia (PSV) Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine pediatric surgeons work closely with a comprehensive medical team specialized in the treatment of infants, children, and teens with muscle, skeletal, and bone conditions and injuries.

The Medical Assistant (MA) will be responsible for providing patient care, clerical and environmental control services in the physician outpatient practice according to established policies and procedures. The MA will utilize information to continuously improve patient care and practice to enhance outcomes. The MA will communicate/collaborate with physicians and staff to provide coordinated, safe and compassionate care for patients. He/she will also participate in continuing education activities that enhance employee's professional abilities and ensure up-to-date patient care.

Job Description
  • Performs general patient care responsibilities, including checking schedules and organizing patient flow; recording patient blood pressure, height, weight; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking, collecting specimens, phlebotomy, assisting physicians/nurses; preparing patients for examination and treatment; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls and providing pertinent information.
  • Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned, which may include: sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; completing forms and requisitions as needed.
  • Organizes medical records, including lab results, progress notes, etc. to ensure the provider has all the necessary information available during the patient’s encounter.
  • Instructs patient in basic testing requirements.
  • Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned which may include: setting up instruments and equipment according to protocol; cleaning exam /procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits; ordering, sorting, storing supplies; restocking exam/procedures rooms.
Minimum Qualifications Required
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • Graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants, Certified or Registered Medical Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician-B/I
  • Current AHA BLS certification
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word and Outlook).
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with both internal and external departmental contacts.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with medical terminology.
  • All employees must pass an employment TB, drug and physical exam.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least two (2) years of experience in a medical group practice or similar industry.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in a pediatric medical office setting.
  • Proficient in English and Spanish, verbal and written communication skills.
Job Type: Full-Time
Pay: $20.00 -$24.00 per hour
Expected Hours: 40 Hours
Physical Demands of Position

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk and talk or hear; and type on a keyboard. He/she may be required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and climb or balance. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to thirty (30) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include near vision, and distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
