Job summary

Pediatric Specialists of Virginia in Falls Church is seeking an experienced Certified Medical Assistant to support the Center of Cancer and Blood Disorders Clinic in Fairfax, VA. This full-time role runs Monday–Friday with clinical hours 8:00am–5:00pm.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program (CMA/RMA) or EMT-B/I.
  • Current AHA BLS certification.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word and Outlook).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with medical terminology.
  • All employees must pass TB, drug and physical exam.

Responsibilities

  • Checks schedules and organizes patient flow; records blood pressure, height, weight; escorts patients to exam/treatment rooms; assists with walking, specimen collection, phlebotomy and procedures.
  • Handles clerical tasks: sending/receiving records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, referrals, completing forms.
  • Organizes medical records for provider access during encounters.
  • Instructs patients in basic testing requirements.
  • Sets up instruments and equipment; cleans rooms; restocks supplies.

Overview

PSV has an exciting employment opportunity for an experienced Certified Medical Assistant to join their dedicated team of healthcare professionals! This specific role will be supporting PSV’s Center of Cancer and Blood Disorders Clinic in our Fairfax, VA location. This position is working full-time Monday - Friday. Clinical hours range between 8:00am – 5:00pm.

The hematologists and oncologists of Pediatric Specialists of Virginia’s (PSV) Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders care for children and their families across the full lifespan of treating these disorders, from initial diagnosis to comprehensive treatments and recovery.

There are only a few pediatric cancer and blood disorder programs in the country that offer the specialized expertise in the childhood forms of these diseases that PSV does. Our team of specialists develop an integrated care plan for each family that allows them to visit one location and access all the services they need. This makes us a true medical home for children undergoing treatment for cancer and blood disorders in Northern Virginia.

Job Description
  • Performs general patient care responsibilities including checking schedules and organizing patient flow; recording patient blood pressure, height, weight; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking, collecting specimens, phlebotomy, assisting physicians/nurses; preparing patients for examination and treatment; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls and providing pertinent information.
  • Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned, which may include: sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; completing forms and requisitions as needed.
  • Organizes medical records, including lab results, progress notes, etc. to ensure the provider has all the necessary information available during the patient's encounter.
  • Instructs patient in basic testing requirements.
  • Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned which may include: setting up instruments and equipment according to protocol; cleaning exam /procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits; ordering, sorting, storing supplies; restocking exam/procedures rooms.
Minimum Qualifications Required
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • Graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants, Certified or Registered Medical Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician-B/I
  • Current AHA BLS certification
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word and Outlook).
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with both internal and external departmental contacts.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with medical terminology.
  • All employees must pass an employment TB, drug and physical exam.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least two (2) years of experience in a medical group practice or similar industry.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in a pediatric medical office setting.
  • Proficient in English and Spanish, verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Demands of Position

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk and talk or hear; and type on a keyboard. He/she may be required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and climb or balance. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to thirty (30) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include near vision, and distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
