The Medical Assistant verifies patient information by interviewing the patient, recording medical history, and documenting the purpose of visit. They prepare patients for examination, assist in procedures as appropriate, and perform a variety of patient care tasks under the supervision of a licensed healthcare provider. Duties range from administrative to clinical.
Essential Functions
- Maintaining patient privacy and adhering to HIPAA guidelines at all times.
- Using computer applications to perform data entry tasks, document patient demographics, records, or notes to file. Documenting patients' medical information, including medical history and review of symptoms within the EHR of the patient's chart.
- Managing office telephone system, including answering calls and returning messages.
- Scheduling patient appointments and maintaining communication to confirm future appointments when necessary.
- Informing patients of laboratory results and documenting properly within the chart.
- Updating and filing patient medical records and any patient correspondence.
- Coding and filling out insurance forms.
- Transmitting prescription or refill requests as directed by the provider.
- Obtaining prescription authorizations for patient medications.
- Reporting and recording applicable diagnosis of malignant results to the FCDS portal.
- Creating certified letter communication for noncompliant patients needing treatment for malignant results.
- Informing management of clinical supplies needed.
Clinical Duties
- Welcoming and greeting patients.
- Maintaining HIPAA and OSHA standards at all times.
- Taking medical histories, recording patients' chief complaints, and documenting provider evaluation notes of visits in patients' charts.
- Monitoring and documenting patient symptoms for physicians' review during clinical exams.
- Preparing patients for examination—prepping exam rooms for clinical, surgical, or cosmetic procedures and assisting providers during exams with patient care.
- Preparing and administering medications as directed by a provider.
- Explaining treatment procedures to patients.
- Ensuring all consents are signed by the patient prior to provider performing any procedures.
- Taking pre- and post-procedure photos and documenting details for any procedure, biopsy, or surgical/cosmetic treatment.
- Collecting, labeling, and preparing laboratory specimens.
- Instructing patients about medication.
- Removing sutures and changing dressings.
- Maintaining proper cleaning and sterilization of medical instruments.
- Reviewing office medication and patient sample expiration dates.
- Properly disinfecting and restocking medical supplies in patient exam rooms.
- Providing compassionate patient support and assistance during office visits, acting as a patient liaison.

Qualifications & Skills
- Medical Assistant Certification (Strongly Preferred).
- Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
- At least 1 year of prior medical assistant experience, preferably in Dermatology or a related specialty.
- Ability to travel between locations if necessary.
- Polished presence appropriate for a medical setting.
- Bilingual skills are a plus (not required).
Wage Range - $19.00/hr - $23.00/hr DOE
