Job description

Join to apply for the Medical Assistant role at CommUnityCare Health Centers.

In collaboration with patients, families (as defined by the patient), and staff across all disciplines and departments, the Medical Assistant is responsible for performing selected clinical duties, including administrative/clerical duties, basic patient care, and administrative tasks associated with patient intake.

Essential Duties
  1. Interview patients, record patient history, measure and record vital signs such as height, weight, BMI, head circumference, current medications, pulse oximetry level, and patient comfort level.
  2. Verify patient information such as demographics, insurance, vitals, and medications; complete the intake process by verifying and entering patient data into EHR/EPM.
  3. Greet and assist patients courteously and professionally, answer telephones, provide information, and verify patient information.
  4. Collect, perform, document, and report results of CLIA-waived lab tests, including urine dip, pregnancy tests, blood glucose levels, fecal occult blood tests, rapid influenza, and rapid strep tests.
  5. Collect, prepare, and document specimen collection such as blood, urine, stool, and sputum.
  6. Perform clinical duties including preparing patients for examinations or treatments, assisting providers, setting up exam rooms, and sterilizing instruments.
  7. Complete pre-visit planning to support clinical visits.
  8. Administer medications per CUC formulary.
  9. Perform medical acts as prescribed by Standing Delegation Orders.
  10. Dismiss patients at the end of visits, completing orders and documentation in the orders module, tasks, and patient plan.
  11. Participate in orientation of new employees and attend mandatory meetings.
  12. Work as a team member, communicating and coordinating patient care and workflow effectively.
  13. Coordinate and manage patient care, including communicating test results, assisting with pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions, and scheduling.
  14. Follow up on diagnostic tests to ensure completion and documentation in EHR.
  15. Maintain medical records, including labs, authorizations, X-rays, hospital records, and previous care documentation.
  16. Maintain a clean, functional environment by cleaning and disinfecting equipment and rooms per CUC guidelines.
  17. Serve as a scribe if assigned, accurately documenting medical visits and procedures.
  18. Document patient history, exams, procedures, treatments, patient education, and provider diagnoses, prescriptions, and instructions.
  19. Prepare referral letters as directed by providers.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical Assistant Diploma and/or National Medical Assistant Certification or equivalent military healthcare experience.
Minimum Experience
  • Completion of a medical assistant externship.
Required Certifications/Licensure
  • Current CPR certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross, maintained during employment.
