Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a bilingual medical interpreter to join ourInterpreter Services team in a hospital setting. You will interpret for clinicians and patients during in-person and telephonic encounters, and serve as a liaison between patients and staff.

The role requires fluency in English and Spanish, medical terminology proficiency, and a certified interpreter program background. Some on-call coverage for evenings/weekends may be required.

Qualifications

• Bi-lingual (oral and written) bi-cultural skills.
• Medical interpreting skills, including accuracy and memory.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Satisfactory fluency in English and target language(s) at a level that ensures accurate interpretation.
• Certification of completion of an Interpreter Program required. National certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Medical interpreting between clinician and patient during face-to-face or telephone encounters.
• Acts as a liaison between patients and staff.
• Informs clinicians about cultural considerations when treating Spanish-speaking patients.
• Interpreter for ancillary departments.
• Interpreters between non-clinical staff and patients as needed.
