Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; BA/BS preferred.
• Bi-lingual (oral and written) bi-cultural skills.
• Medical interpreting skills, including accuracy and memory.
• Satisfactory fluency in English and target language(s).
• One year of experience in a healthcare interpreting environment preferred.
• Certification of completion of an Interpreter Program required; national certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Medical interpreting between clinician and patient during face-to-face or telephone encounters.
• Liaison between patients and staff; inform clinicians about cultural considerations.
• Interpreters for ancillary departments and for non-clinical staff as needed.
• Assist with training staff interpreters and edits translated materials.
• Identify areas to better meet Spanish-speaking community needs; outreach and signage.
• May perform on-call services in evenings, weekends, or holidays.
