Job summary

City of Georgetown is seeking a qualified Public Information Officer to bridge communications between the City, community, media, and other government entities. The role supports the Mayor and management team in crafting internal and external messaging and handles FOIA requests.

As backup to the Municipal Clerk, the PIO will participate in the Executive Cabinet Team and report to the City Administrator, ensuring accurate and timely information dissemination across channels.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in journalism, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Public Administration, or related field and four (4) years progressive responsibility in public or community relations work, with emphasis on external communications and public information programs.
• Excellent writing and communications skills.
• Experience as a graphic designer, video producer, or professional writer is a plus.
• Must have a valid SC driver's license.
• Relevant full-time experience with a government agency is preferred.
• Must have or acquire FEMA L105 Public Information Basics certification within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Acts as a link between the City and the community, media, and other government entities.
• Supports the Mayor, the City's management team, and staff in formulating internal and external communications.
• Serves as backup to the Municipal Clerk and processes FOIA requests.
• Member of the Executive Cabinet Team (ECT).
• Reports to the City Administrator.
