Job summary

MercyOne Medical Group in Newton, IA is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our Med/Surg unit. You will provide professional nursing care from admission to discharge, coordinate with other disciplines, educate families, and collaborate with physicians to ensure quality patient outcomes.

This 23-private-room unit handles diverse medical and surgical diagnoses; we value strong clinical judgment, English proficiency, BLS/ACLS, and licensure in Iowa.

Qualifications

• Understands and applies the nursing process while meeting established Nursing Standards.
• Must read, write and follow written and oral instructions in English.
• Maintain BLS certification and ACLS, Mandatory Reporting certification.

Responsibilities

• Administers nursing care to patients; assess, plan, implement and evaluate care in coordination with the physician.
• Provides patient/family education and counseling.
• Supervises health care team members (e.g., patient care technicians).
• Utilizes computer applications and communication technologies to enter, retrieve and analyze information.
• Maintains documentation requirements for patient records.
• Works independently with supervision per Nurse Practice Act and unit policies.
• Maintains knowledge of equipment setup, maintenance, and usage to maximize patient safety.
• Works rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
