Job summary

MercyOne is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our Des Moines, Iowa team on a full-time schedule. This role supports nursing care across a 40-bed medical-surgical unit with emphasis on urology, nephrology, trauma, and colorectal surgery, in collaboration with Virtual Nurse partners.

The RN will assess and plan patient care, ensure safe handling, and guide care teams while using monitoring and IV equipment to maximize patient safety. 36 hours/week, 3 shifts available.

Qualifications

• Possession of a current or compact state licensure as a registered nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certified within six weeks of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assesses, plans, and implements nursing care while ensuring patient comfort.
• Practices safe patient handling techniques.
• Continues to evaluate assigned patients and provides ongoing treatment.
• Anticipates, identifies, and responds to educational and emotional needs of patients and families.
• Guides and directs healthcare personnel in caring for patients.
• Maintains knowledge of equipment setup, maintenance, and use to maximize patient safety.
• Initiates emergency support measures such as CPR.
