Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham is seeking a PRN Nursing Assistant to provide safe basic patient care under supervision on the 5 West / Med-Surg unit, at UAB St. Vincent's East. You will help with mobility, daily living tasks, and comfort while supporting Registered Nurses.

Qualifications

• Performs basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
• Assists patients with ambulation and daily living activities.
• Reports changes in patient condition to nursing staff and documents records.
• Maintains clean patient rooms and medical equipment.
• Performs technical duties such as oxygen setup, catheter care, pulse oximetry, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Obtains and records vitals, weight, and intake/output.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary.
• Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
• Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff and documents necessary records.
• Keeps patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintains medical equipment.
• Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as oxygen setup, foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
