Job summary

University of Michigan Health-West is seeking a Patient Care Technician in Med-Surg for days, 24 hours per week. Under RN direction, you will provide basic nursing care and support unit needs.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, BLS certification, and either CENA or health-science program enrollment, or equivalent healthcare experience. On-site orientation and unit competencies apply.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CENA certification or enrollment in health science program required or equivalent health science study.
• Basic life support (BLS) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living and provide comfort.
• Help with hygiene and routine personal care.
• Perform catheter care (not insertion) and wound/dressings as directed.
• Support postmortem care as needed.
• Assist with nutrition, trays, feeding and intake recording.
• Measure and record vital signs and weights.
• Collect and label specimens for testing and use glucometer for blood glucose.
• Document care provided and communicate observations to RN.
