Job summary

BWX Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Tooling Engineer in Indiana to design, develop, and procure tooling for heavy equipment fabrication with a strong focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

You will use NX extensively and collaborate with production, welding, and manufacturing teams to create effective tooling solutions. On-site role with opportunities to work closely with vendors and shop-floor personnel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Nuclear or Manufacturing Engineering Technology; or Physics).
• Experience with Solid Modeling, preferably NX.
• Ability to present information effectively in one-on-one and small group settings.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently with internal and external customers.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and procure tooling for heavy‑equipment fabrication.
• Collaborate with production teams and end users to refine tooling solutions.
• Model, analyze, and finalize tooling designs using NX.
• Coordinate with vendors on pricing, kickoff meetings, and technical guidance.
• Spend time on the production floor to understand build sequences and gather feedback.
• Prepare design reports, conduct peer reviews, approve drawings, and perform structural analyses.
