- Lead mechanical teams for large-scale projects from preconstruction through final completion
- Direct and coordinate construction activities for mechanical industrial projects
- Oversee one large project or several smaller projects
- Ensure project goals are achieved within prescribed timeframes and funding parameters
- Manage Project Engineers, General Foremen, and Foremen, including team direction, coordination, and evaluation
- Establish a 24/7 safety culture for crews
- Maintain liaison with prime clients to facilitate construction activities
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate projects to meet milestones and budgets
- Ensure team members have appropriate equipment, materials, and information
- Provide technical expertise and assist with difficult construction, startup, and closeout issues
- Address personnel-related issues with the Project Manager and Director
- Identify and minimize obstacles throughout construction
- Establish project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards
- Assign project duties, responsibilities, and authority
- Review project proposals, plans, timeframes, funding limitations, staffing requirements, and resources
- Review personnel status reports and modify schedules/plans as needed
- Resolve technical problems and coordinate activities with subcontractors
- Analyze and execute CPM-based project schedules
- Represent the company in Owner progress meetings
- Lead daily field coordination, weekly block schedule, and monthly safety kickoff meetings
- Conduct supervisory activities including interviewing, hiring, training, assigning work, performance appraisal, rewards/discipline, complaint handling, and problem resolution
Requirements
- 10 years of field experience with a background as a skilled tradesperson OR a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or construction management plus 7 years of field experience
- 4-year engineering or construction management degree or equivalent technical experience progressing through the ranks from Journeyman to Foreman to Superintendent
- Prior experience working on union projects strongly preferred
- Advanced knowledge of the construction industry
- Ability to think strategically and plan over a 1–3-year time span
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to understand and interpret safety laws, company policies/standards, and labor collective bargaining agreements
- Thorough understanding of basic and complex construction management processes and building techniques
- Prior direct profit and loss responsibility and accountability
- Advanced computer skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities
- Problem analysis and resolution skills; sound judgment
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with a wide cross section of individuals
