Job summary

Sterling Steel Company in Sterling, IL is seeking a Mechanical/Structural Engineer to support melt shop and rod mill operations. You will read blueprints, assist with design, and oversee installation and maintenance of mechanical systems to meet quality and cost targets.

The role requires 5–10 years of industrial experience, a BS in mechanical or structural engineering, and ability to work across engineering disciplines. On-site role with variable shifts and safety emphasis.

Qualifications

• BS Degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering preferred.
• 5–10 years of industrial experience with mechanical equipment.
• Experience managing scope, budget and schedules on construction projects.
• Ability to read/interpret mechanical, electrical, hydraulic schematics & drawings.
• Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills; able to work on multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and reports.
• Collaborate with engineers to implement procedures and resolve malfunctions.
• Design, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical systems per requirements.
• Assist drafters in developing structural designs using CAD tools.
• Oversee installation, maintenance, and repair to meet specs.
• Suggest design modifications to prevent failures.
• Estimate costs and prepare contract documents.
