Job summary

M.C. Dean is seeking a Mechanical Systems Safety Engineer to oversee safe isolation of mechanical systems at mission-critical data centers. You will interpret P&IDs, review commissioning plans, and ensure absence-of-energy verification is properly executed in the field.

You will support the Mechanical Energy Marshal, drive safety improvements, and coordinate LOTO with stakeholders while developing field competency and owning the safety process on site.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 2+ years of mechanical field engineering, maintenance, or commissioning experience.
• Ability to read P&IDs, specs, and sequences of operations for field use.
• Experience with absence-of-energy verification and two-person verification practices.
• Familiarity with mechanical energy isolation and lockout/tagout concepts.

Responsibilities

• Serve as on-site resource for mechanical energy isolation across cold water, steam, air, and other systems.
• Review procedures, permits, and JHAs to ensure safe isolation practices are followed.
• Coordinate isolations with electrical marshals; verify two-person checks are completed.
• Lead pre-isolation meetings and oversee field execution without performing lockout/tagout.
• Train personnel on mechanical LOTO processes and enforce zero-energy state discipline.
