Job summary

The Porter Company is seeking a Project Intern to assist the Project Team with coordinating information on commercial HVAC and plumbing projects. The role supports project managers, handles document control, submittals, RFIs, changes, and ensures drawings are correctly distributed to field teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, construction science, or related field; completed or in progress.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Familiarity with project management/document control software preferred (Autodesk Forma, MS Project, Bluebeam).

Responsibilities

• Support Project Manager in driving project’s overall flow effectively from inception to completion.
• Assist with project document control, including but not limited to, insurance, bonding, permits, submittals, RFI’s, change orders, correspondence, etc.
• Ensure documents are centrally saved in the project’s chosen document control software.
• Verify correct drawings are distributed to field.
• Support project schedule showing completion, delivery dates and sub requirements. Integrate into overall project and manpower schedule as required or directed by the Project Manager.
• Track deliveries of major equipment and subs indicating shipping requirements and anticipating delivery dates. (Request proper delivery notice at that time.)
• Coordinate with field personnel to ensure QA/QC documentation is completed and submitted as required.
• Gather information for changes in work and turnover to estimating for pricing.
• Assist field personnel in closeout of project.
• Escalate critical and/or sensitive issues to the Project Manager with recommendation for resolution.
• Comply with all Company operating policies, procedures, and safety programs as established.
• Perform additional assignments as directed by the Project Manager or Asst. Project Manager.
