Job summary

Highland Consulting Group is assisting a regional mechanical contractor in Newport News, VA, in hiring an experienced Assistant Project Manager or Project Engineer who will handle commercial/industrial mechanical projects focusing on piping, plumbing, and sheet metal. The role involves supporting the Project Manager, coordinating submittals, RFIs, change orders, and budget controls.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of experience in similar roles and a track record of project management success,

Qualifications

Solid communication skills—verbal and written.
Ability to establish timelines and budgets.
Experience in cost estimation and negotiating.
Ability to multi-task effectively across disciplines.
Ability to lead productive, multi-discipline meetings.
Proven record of career stability and project management success.

Responsibilities

Assist the Project Manager in managing and supervising all phases of assigned projects.
Manage the submittal process and respond to RFIs as needed.
Assist in negotiating change orders and maintain logs.
Work with the Project Manager to manage the project budget and expenses.
Interface with the Owner on projects and maintain project records and close-out documents.
Prepare and manage project schedules and punch-list inspections with subcontractors.
