Job summary

State of New Hampshire, Department of Safety, Division of Fire Safety, Bureau of Building Safety & Construction - Mechanical Safety, seeks a Mechanical Inspector to conduct plan reviews and field inspections for mechanical, fuel gas fitting and plumbing systems in state buildings and other properties.

The role requires knowledge of code interpretations, inspections, and the ability to address non-compliance; a valid NH gas fitter or plumbing license and a NH driver’s license are required.

Qualifications

• Education/Experience: Equivalent combination of 9 years of education and experience after high school.
• Experience with fuel gas fitting, mechanical or plumbing trades or mechanical trades.

Responsibilities

• Performs construction plan review to verify state building and fire code compliance and issues approvals.
• Assists with inspections of construction projects in state buildings and others as required.
• Assists local fire officials and code enforcement officials with inspections of residential, commercial and industrial installations.
• Investigates complaints and documents suspected violations and may testify in court or hearings.
• Promotes application of state building and fire codes and documents violations and prepares inspection reports.
• Assists in identifying factors contributing to violations and ensures licensure discrepancies are documented.
• Provides guidance to contractors and the public on gas fitting and plumbing codes and safety standards.
