Job summary

City of Elkhart is seeking a Mechanical Inspector in the Building & Code Enforcement department. The role supervises licensing of HVACR contractors, issues HVAC permits, inspects new and replacement HVAC systems, and maintains inspection records.

It also approves gas piping installations and can disconnect unsafe equipment in accordance with City Ordinance 3943 City Code 155. The position, full-time and on-site, reports to the Building Commissioner and involves field site travel, plan reviews

Qualifications

• Must be licensed as a Mechanical contractor and obtain inspector certification within one year of hire.
• Must have a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Inspect new and replacement HVAC installations.
• Supervise licensing of mechanical contractors.
• Supervise issuing of mechanical permits.
• Retain files of inspections and licensing.
• Condemn and order correction of unsafe installations or equipment.

Education
