Job summary

Spire Solutions in Des Moines, IA, is hiring an Estimator II – Mechanical to join our estimating team. You will support the team by preparing portions of a mechanical estimate, performing quantity surveying, pricing, bid solicitation, and compiling cost history.

You’ll work with plans and specifications, collaborate with project leads, and contribute to cost analysis and value opportunities throughout the estimating process.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience as an estimator in the construction industry
• Experience with mechanical estimates is highly preferred
• Degree in a construction‑related field is desired

Responsibilities

• Read and analyze plans/specs and incorporate requirements in the estimate
• Prepare quantity surveys of assigned items
• Generate design development estimates with quantities from plans/specs
• Assist in developing project quantities from schematic plans and elevations
• Solicit sub and vendor quotes and communicate scope
• Ensure complete trade coverage and flag shortfalls to lead
• Prepare bid-day spreadsheets and tabulations (Bid Tickets)
• Project pricing using historical data and adjust for conditions
• Review proposals to identify gaps or overlaps in scope
• Prepare final estimate for rollover to job cost system
• Prepare cost analysis reports and identify value opportunities
