Spire Solutions is hiring an Estimator II - Mechanical to join our team in Des Moines, IA. The Estimator II will support the estimating team by preparing complete portions of a mechanical estimate for construction projects, handling quantity surveying, pricing, bid solicitation, and cost history compilation.

Spire Solutions, a subsidiary of The Weitz Company, collaborates on design-assist, procurement, and turnkey installation to improve cost and outcomes.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of estimating experience in construction
• Experience with mechanical estimates preferred
• Degree in a construction-related field desired

Responsibilities

• Read and analyze technical plans/specifications and incorporate requirements into the estimate
• Produce quantity surveys of assigned items
• Generate design development estimates with quantities from schematic plans
• Develop complete project quantities from schematic plans and elevations
• Solicit sub and vendor quotes and communicate scope accurately
• Ensure complete trade coverage and flag solicitation gaps
• Prepare bid-day spreadsheets and detailed proposal tabulations
• Project pricing based on historical data and adjust for conditions
• Review proposals for scope gaps and overlaps
• Prepare final estimate for rollover to cost accounting and cost management
• Prepare cost analysis reports highlighting value opportunities

Spire Solutions is hiring an Estimator II - Mechanical to join our team in Des Moines, IA! The Estimator II will support the estimating team by preparing complete portions of a mechanical estimate for construction projects. This role will provide quantity surveying, pricing, bid solicitation, compile cost history, and preparing system comparisons. What You'll Do:

• Read and analyze technical plans/specifications and assist team by incorporating those requirements in the estimate
• Produce reliable, complete, consistent, well-documented, and timely quantity surveys of assigned items
• Generate design development estimates, providing quantities and components based on incomplete plans and specifications.
• Assist in the development of complete project quantities based upon schematic level plans and elevations
• Conduct organized sub and vendor solicitation while accurately communicating the required scope of work
• Ensure complete trade coverage is obtained and advise project lead of potential solicitation shortfalls
• Assist in the preparation of bid-day spreadsheets and detailed proposal tabulation sheets (Bid Tickets), including any custom client cost breakdown/schedule of values
• Assist in projecting pricing based on historical data and adjusting pricing as needed to allow for project conditions
• Review trade proposals and scope letters as received to identify gaps and overlaps in scope of work
• Prepare the final estimate for rollover to the job cost accounting system, adjusted to meet the project team's needs for cost management
• Prepare cost analysis reports and be mindful of value analysis opportunities throughout the estimating process

What We’re Looking For:

• Experience:
  • 2+ years of experience as an estimator in the construction industry
  • Experience with mechanical estimates is highly preferred
  • Degree in a construction-related field is desired
• Skills:
  • Analytical with a high level of accuracy
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Flexibility to balance competing needs with tight timeframes
  • Quick learner
  • High level of initiative and problem-solving skills
  • Technology:
    • Proficient in basic computer software including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
    • Experience with Procore and Bluebeam is a plus
    • Ability to learn specific job-related software upon hire
