Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking an estimating professional to support preliminary budgets and detailed estimates for smaller, less complex projects. This role analyzes drawings, performs material take-offs, and prepares bid package documents for internal review.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training, strong verbal and written communication, solid analytical skills, and proficiency with Excel, Word, and common estimating software.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred, or trade school or equivalent combination of technical training and related experience
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Good analytical skills
• Basic ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems
• Basic ability to read and understand specifications and drawings
• General knowledge of construction costs and principles
• Basic ability to perform mathematical calculations and apply fractions, percentages, ratios and prorations
• Basic drafting skills
• Competent Excel and Word skills
• Basic knowledge of QuickPen AutoBid Mechanical and Sheet Metal Estimating software

Responsibilities

• Assists with preliminary budgets and conceptual estimates for smaller, less complex projects
• Performs material take-offs using applicable software and provides unit cost pricing
• Assists with bid package estimates and document comparisons
• Tracks quantities and resolves discrepancies
• Researches and compiles historical cost data for future estimates
• Maintains working project document files for estimating figures
• Responds to basic questions from internal managers
