Job description

Mechanical Engineering Technician - Mayville, WI

Under the direction of the Engineering Supervisor or other engineering staff, the Mechanical Engineering Technician will design Gleason products to meet or exceed customer and company specifications, production and quality standards, and customer delivery requirements.

A Day In The Life

The following roles and responsibilities are required to fulfill the position and are not all inclusive:

  1. Work with the Supervisor and Design and Technical Engineering Staff to design, maintain, and improve Gleason products while meeting engineering and company standards, customer specifications, and staying within cost and schedule constraints.
  2. Design products to meet industry regulatory standards for safety, quality, and manufacturability such as ASME, NEMA, UL, and CSA.
  3. Create and maintain 3D solid models, design layouts, and production drawings using CAD tools.
  4. Redesign standard products to improve quality and productivity while reducing costs.
  5. Solve problems related to form, fit, and function (FFF) of Gleason products and components.
  6. Act as a technical resource for product field support, assisting customers, service personnel, and field sales in resolving questions and problems.
  7. Participate in cross-functional teams to contribute to problem resolution and continuous improvement.
  8. Stay current with industry developments.
  9. Enter and maintain material master data and assembly BOMs using SAP.
  10. Process sales orders, quality notifications, and engineering release notices via SAP.
  11. Handle quality discrepancy reports and shop floor suggestions related to product design.
  12. Process reports related to product design, quality, and testing.

Other duties as assigned.

What will help you thrive in this role?
  • Associate's degree in Mechanical Design or Mechanical Technology.
  • Minimum of three years of related work experience.
  • Experience with machine components design and fabrication.
  • Experience with sheet metal design and fabrication.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access).
  • Proficient with Autodesk products such as AutoCAD Mechanical, Inventor, and Autodesk Vault.
  • Experience with SAP is a plus.

Skills and Abilities

Language Skills: Ability to interpret technical specifications, journals, blueprints, and communicate effectively with vendors, customers, and colleagues.

Mathematical Skills: Knowledge of geometry, trigonometry, and application of fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions. Understanding of structural analysis, stress, strain, horsepower, and torque calculations.

Computer Skills: Proficiency with 3D CAD tools, Autodesk Inventor preferred, and Microsoft Office suite.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems related to design, materials, manufacturability, safety, and quality, and to interpret various instructions.
