Job Overview

Under the direction of the Engineering Supervisor or other engineering staff, the Mechanical EngineeringTechnician will design Gleason products to meet or exceed customer and company specifications,production and quality standards, and customer delivery requirements.

A Day In The Life

The following roles and responsibilities will be required to fulfil the position and are not all inclusive.
• Work with the Supervisor and Design and Technical Engineering Staff to design, maintain, andimprove Gleason products while meeting engineering and company standards, customerspecifications, and staying within cost and schedule constraints.
• Design products to meet industry regulatory standards for safety, quality, and manufacturabilitysuch as ASME, NEMA, UL, and CSA.
• Create and maintain 3D solid models, design layouts, and production drawings using CAD tools.
• Redesign standard products, improving quality and productivity, while reducing costs.
• Solve problems encountered when working with Gleason products and their components relatedto their form, fit, and function (FFF).
• Act as technical resource for product field support of customers, service personnel and fieldsales, assisting in addressing and resolving questions and problems.
• Participate on cross-functional teams and contribute to resolution of problems and continuousimprovement.
• Stay current with new developments in the industry.
• Enter and maintain material master data and assembly BOMs using business application (SAP).
• Process sales orders and quality notifications through engineering using business application(SAP).
• Process engineering release notices for new products and revisions utilizing company proceduresand forms.
• Process quality discrepancy reports (DR) and shop floor suggestions (FS) pertaining to productdesign.
• Process reports relevant to product design, quality, and testing.

Other duties as assigned.

What will help you thrive in this role?

• Associate's degree in Mechanical Design or Mechanical Technology
• Minimum of three years of related work experience.
• Experience with machine components design and fabrication
• Experience with sheet metal design and fabrication
• Experience with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook and Access
• Proficient with Autodesk products; AutoCAD Mechanical, Inventor, and Autodesk Vault
• Experience with SAP business applications is a plus

Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical specifications, professional journals, andblueprints. Ability to write reports and documentation. Ability to communicate effectively with vendors,customers, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry andtrigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practicalsituations. Understand the fundamentals involving structural analysis, component stress and strain, andhorsepower and torque calculations related to electric motors and gear boxes.

Computer Skills:
Proficiency with 3D CAD design tools, familiarity with Autodesk Inventor desired. Proficiency withMicrosoft Office tools including MS Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems involving component and product design, materials selection,manufacturability, safety, and quality. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral,diagram, or schedule form.
