Job summary

Iris Technology Corporation in Irvine, CA is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager/Principal Mechanical Engineer 4 to lead the Mechanical Engineering function (80% management, 20% individual contributor) and provide senior technical leadership on mechanical design, development, integration, and testing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent.
• 10+ years of engineering experience in technical, R&D, or manufacturing environments.
• Experience leading technical projects with schedules, budgets, and resources.
• Ability to lead a mechanical engineering team in a matrix organization.
• Expertise in mechanical design, development, analysis, and integration.
• CAD software proficiency (SolidWorks preferred), 2D drawings, 3D modeling.
• Configuration management, DFM, GD&T, and tolerancing expertise.
• Ability to read electrical/mechanical drawings and work with multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience with customers and building technical relationships.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Mechanical Engineering team in design, development, integration, and testing of mechanical systems.
• Act as functional manager for the Mechanical Engineering discipline within Iris Technology’s matrix organization.
• Provide technical mentorship, guidance, and support to mechanical engineers.
• Approve timesheets and manage resource backup.
• Conduct regular team meetings for communication and issue resolution.
• Participate in annual reviews and set department goals.
• Plan and monitor program performance including schedules, budgets, and resources.
• Develop requirements, mechanical specs, deliverables, and execution plans with cross-functional teams.
• Prepare detailed SolidWorks designs, 2D drawings, and assembly drawings.
• Analyze mechanical designs for thermal and structural performance.
• Select materials and processes to meet design, environmental, quality, and cost targets.
• Coordinate vendors and ensure component quality via inspections.
• Prepare data reports and design review packages for customer approval.
• Ensure compliance with AS9100 and customer requirements.
• Identify risks and develop contingency plans.
• Resolve technical and production issues; support manufacturing.
• Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes and productivity.
• Stay current with industry trends and technologies.
