Job summary

Pratt & Whitney in Carlsbad, California, offers an internship/co-op focused on opto-mechanical design, CAD modeling, analysis, and testing of precision optical assemblies. You will contribute to tooling, fixtures, prototype development, and documentation.

With an emphasis on opto‑mechanical design, you will broaden your CAD skills while gaining experience in design, analysis and geometric tolerancing.

Qualifications You Must Have

• Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co‑op session.
• Experience with computer aided design (CAD) tools such as Creo, SolidWorks, and/or NX for part and assembly modeling.
• Experience may be obtained through on‑the‑job experience, research, coursework, or projects.

Qualifications We Prefer

• Experience with mechanical design fundamentals, engineering principles and GD&T concepts.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and/or Outlook).
• Experience working as part of a team to solve technical problems.
• Exposure to basic FEA methods for evaluating stress, deformation, or thermal performance under guidance.
• Experience with engineering laboratory practices, including prototyping, mechanical testing, and use of standard measurement instruments.

The salary range for this role is 42,000 USD - 88,000 USD.
