Job summary

Formlabs in Somerville, MA seeks a Mechanical Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 to design, build, and test 3D printers. You will work hands-on in our in-house labs on prototypes and components.

You’ll join design reviews, learn the engineering drawing process, and collaborate with vendors to tackle manufacturing challenges while developing your documentation skills. This full-time onsite internship offers hands-on growth and real-world impact.

Qualifications

• Portfolio of previous engineering work required.
• Experience with mechanical or electro‑mechanical systems.
• Familiarity with engineering design process and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Design, assemble, test, and evaluate 3D printer performance.
• Participate in design reviews and solve design/manufacturing problems.
• Polish time management and communication as an engineer.
• Build prototype components and assemblies in house.
• Create CAD drawings and engineering documentation.
• Assist with communications to vendors and suppliers to address production challenges.
