Job summary

Formlabs in Somerville, MA seeks a Mechanical Engineer to design and prototype precision mechanisms for desktop 3D printers. You’ll use SolidWorks or Onshape to produce components, drawings, and assemblies, collaborating with sourcing and manufacturing to scale designs to production.

You’ll work on electro‑mechanical systems, material selection, and verification tests, with emphasis on reliability and user experience. Hands‑on fabrication and a passion for craftsmanship help you thrive.

Qualifications

• Experience designing precision mechanical parts for 3D printers or similar
• Familiarity with tolerances, fit, and materials
• Experience with full product development cycle

Responsibilities

• Prototype new mechanisms, test materials, and research 3D printing challenges
• Analyze, test, validate and iterate on electro‑mechanical systems
• Create detailed designs in CAD and well‑specified drawings
• Collaborate with Global Sourcing and Manufacturing to move designs to mass production
• Push capabilities of 3D printing
