Qualifications

  • Competency with building load calculation software such as Carrier HAP, Trane TRACE, IES, or similar software.

Description

Entech Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Designer with approximately 2–10 years of experience to support architectural engineering, facilities, utilities, and infrastructure-related projects. This position will support the planning, design, documentation, and construction-phase services for HVAC, plumbing, mechanical utility, and related building systems.

The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team of engineers, designers, architects, planners, and project managers to develop practical, reliable, energy-conscious, and constructible mechanical design solutions. Primary project work will include MEP design for buildings and facilities, with additional emphasis on utility infrastructure, campus systems, central plants, HVAC renewals, mechanical distribution systems, and construction support.

This position is available from our Beaver Falls, Reading, Lancaster, or Pottsville, PA office locations.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Assist with the design and documentation of mechanical systems for building, facility, utility, and infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare mechanical drawings, details, schedules, and specifications under the direction of senior engineering staff.
  • Support design of HVAC systems, hydronic systems, ventilation systems, plumbing systems, mechanical piping, and related controls coordination.
  • Perform building heating and cooling load calculations using Carrier Hourly Analysis Program, Trane TRACE, IES, or similar building load calculation and energy modeling software.
  • Assist with equipment selections, ductwork and piping layouts, system sizing, and mechanical room coordination.
  • Support central plant, boiler, chiller, pump, air handling, terminal unit, ventilation, and building automation system design efforts.
  • Assist with field investigations, existing condition documentation, mechanical system assessments, and utility infrastructure reviews.
  • Coordinate mechanical design work with electrical, plumbing, architectural, civil, structural, and owner requirements.
  • Participate in site visits, field surveys, construction meetings, and punch list reviews.
  • Review submittals, RFIs, and contractor questions during construction administration.
  • Assist with preparation of technical reports, feasibility studies, opinions of probable construction cost, and project documentation.
  • Support project teams in delivering practical design solutions that meet applicable codes, client needs, schedules, and budgets.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of mechanical building codes, energy codes, ASHRAE guidance, and general building systems design practices.
  • Familiarity with HVAC systems, hydronic heating and cooling systems, ventilation systems, plumbing systems, mechanical piping, and building automation systems.
  • Able to think through how systems operate, how they are constructed, and how they will be maintained by the owner.
  • Ability to perform field investigations and document existing conditions accurately.
  • Practical, detail-oriented, and eager to learn.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working on both building systems and infrastructure-related projects.
  • Interested in energy-efficient, reliable, and maintainable mechanical system design.
  • Willing to ask questions, coordinate with others, and take ownership of assigned tasks.
  • Interested in long-term growth within a consulting engineering environment.
  • Capable of supporting multiple concurrent projects while maintaining quality and responsiveness.
Education and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Architectural Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Approximately 2–10 years of relevant experience in mechanical design, building systems, utilities, infrastructure, or consulting engineering.
  • Proficiency or working capability in AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Competency with building load calculation software such as Carrier Hourly Analysis Program, Trane TRACE, IES, or similar software.
  • Commitment to professional growth toward increased technical responsibility, project responsibility, and professional licensure.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
  • Engineer-in-Training certification is preferred but not required.
  • Professional Engineer license preferred but not required.
  • Experience with architectural engineering, MEP consulting, institutional facilities, campus environments, utilities, central plants, or infrastructure projects is preferred.
  • Combination of office-based engineering, hybrid collaboration, and field visits including site investigations, construction observation, utility coordination, and client meetings.
  • Local travel required a few times per month with occasional overnight travel required.
