Job summary

LVI Associates is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Department Head to lead its mechanical engineering team across multiple Southeast & Mid-Atlantic locations with remote options. The role focuses on department operations, staff development, technical oversight, and strategic growth while ensuring high-quality project delivery.

Ideal candidates bring 15+ years of mechanical engineering leadership, a PE license, and strong HVAC/building systems expertise.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• PE license required.
• 15+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
• Proven leadership experience managing engineering teams and workloads.
• Strong background in HVAC and building systems design.
• Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and mechanical engineering software tools.
• Knowledge of applicable codes, standards and best practices.
• Excellent communication, leadership and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers and designers.
• Manage workload planning, staffing, and resource allocation.
• Oversee project quality, schedules, and budgets.
• Conduct technical reviews of engineering deliverables.
• Support design of HVAC, plumbing, central utility, hydronic, and sustainable building systems.
• Collaborate with leadership, project managers, and clients to drive outcomes.
• Assist with hiring, employee development, and performance management.
• Support business development, proposal preparation, and client relationships.
