Job summary

MKS Instruments is seeking a Mechanical Engineering co-op in Andover, MA to support design, analysis, build, and test of capacitance sensors and transducers. You will report to Sr Mgr, Engineering and gain hands-on experience over a 6‑month internship starting January 2027.

Engage with engineering and production teams to develop prototypes, diagnose issues, and perform thermal/mechanical analyses using SolidWorks and COMSOL. Travel up to 10% is expected.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree program in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
• Comfortable with using standard hand tools for building electromechanical devices and test systems.
• SolidWorks CAD modeling and data processing with Excel/Python/MATLAB.
• Familiar with basic electrical testing and debugging methods.

Responsibilities

• Build prototype designs with engineering and production teams.
• Diagnose production issues affecting sensor performance.
• Perform mechanical and thermal analyses using SolidWorks and COMSOL.
• Test pressure transducers at sensor and system levels.
• Analyze test data and produce detailed reports.
• Design and fabricate test equipment via 3D printing and CNC milling.
