MKS is seeking a Mechanical Engineering co-op to join the Direct Pressure Engineering group and assist in the design, analysis, build and test of capacitance sensors and transducers. You will report to Sr Mgr, Engineering and contribute to prototype development and data analysis.
This 6-month internship begins January 2027 and offers meaningful work, exposure to multiple divisions, and opportunities to network with peers and executives. Travel up to 10% may be required.
As a Mechanical Engineering co-op at MKS, you will work within the Direct Pressure Engineering group to support the design, analysis, build and test of capacitance sensors and transducers. In this role you will report to Sr Mgr, Engineering.
6-month co-op assignment within a functional area of MKS Inc. that provides students a comprehensive and engaging experience from before your program starts to after the program ends.

Working closely with engineering and production to build prototype designs
Helping diagnose production related issues with sensor performance
Performing various types of mechanical and thermal analyses using SolidWorks and/or COMSOL FEA with the help/guidance of senior Mechanical Engineers
Testing pressure transducers at the sensor and system level
Analyzing test data and produce detailed reports
Supporting design and troubleshooting of test systems
Designing and fabricate test equipment via 3D printing, CNC milling, etc.
Travel Requirements: Up to 10% of Travel is required.
Enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree program in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Lowell
Comfortable with using standard hand tools for building electromechanical devices and test systems
SolidWorks CAD modeling
Microsoft Excel, MATLAB or Python script writing for data processing
Familiar with basic electrical testing and debugging methods
Capability to perform extensive test data analysis
Good understanding of mechanical design principles
Good understanding of heat transfer principles
Familiar with using test instrumentation like thermocouples, strain gauges, infrared cameras, etc.
Perform activities such as sitting, standing, or typing for extended periods of time
Regularly requires good manual dexterity and coordination
Must be able to communicate accurate information and ideas so others will understand
The ability to observe documents and details at close range (within a few feet of the observer)
Operates in a professional office environment
Frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
Noise level in the work environment is usually average

Hourly Pay Range: $23.00 to $31.00 per hour. This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary range for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs and other considerations permitted by law. At MKS, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.
Benefits: MKS offers a benefits package for interns/co-ops working at least 20 hours per week, including 11 paid holidays, sick time, and 15 paid vacation days accrued on a biweekly basis.
