Job summary

MKS Inc. is offering a 6-month Mechanical Engineering co-op beginning January 2027. You will partner with engineering to design, analyze, build and test capacitance sensors and transducers. You will report to the Director, Engineering.

This internship/co-op emphasizes meaningful work, prototyping, data analysis and hands-on testing with travel up to 10% as needed.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree program in Mechanical Engineering.
• Comfortable with using standard hand tools for building electromechanical devices and test systems.
• SolidWorks CAD modeling.
• Microsoft Excel, MATLAB or Python script writing for data processing.
• Familiar with basic electrical testing and debugging methods.
• Qualified candidate must be US Persons.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with engineering and production to build prototype designs.
• Help diagnose production related issues with sensor performance.
• Perform various types of mechanical and thermal analyses using SolidWorks and/or COMSOL FEA with guidance from senior Mechanical Engineers.
• Test pressure transducers at the sensor and system level.
• Analyze test data and produce detailed reports.
• Support design and troubleshooting of test systems.
• Design and fabricate test equipment via 3D printing, CNC milling, etc.
• Travel Requirements: Up to 10% of Travel is required.

A Day in Your Life at MKS
As a Mechanical Engineering Co-op within the Direct Pressure Engineering group, you will partner with engineering to support the design, analysis, build and test of capacitance sensors and transducers In this role, you will report to the Director, Engineering.

Intern / Co-op Program Overview:

• 6-month co-op assignment within a functional area of MKS Inc. that provides students a comprehensive and engaging experience from before your program starts to after the program ends.

Intern/Co-op Term:

This is a 6-month internship/co-op beginning in January 2027.

You Will Make an Impact By:

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

• Perform activities such as sitting, standing, or typing for extended periods of time

• Regularly requires good manual dexterity and coordination

• Must be able to communicate accurate information and ideas so others will understand

• The ability to observe documents and details at close range (within a few feet of the observer)

• Operates in a professional office environment

• Frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery

• Noise level in the work environment is usually average

Compensation and Benefits:

Hourly Pay Range: $23.00 to $31.00 per hour. This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary range for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs and other considerations permitted by law. At MKS, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.

Benefits: MKS offers a benefits package for interns/co-ops working at least 20 hours per week, including 11 paid holidays, sick time, and 15 paid vacation days accrued on a biweekly basis.

The application period for the intern/co-op position is estimated to be through the end of November 2026; however, this may be shortened or extended depending on business needs and the availability of qualified candidates.
