Job summary

Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) is seeking a mechanical engineering co-op/intern to support reliability and project initiatives across our mill network. Responsibilities include reliability assignments, capital-project support, and hands-on use of AutoCAD, PCMS Trident, and MS Office.

The role advances safety, efficiency, and cost performance while collaborating with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams. Open to students with a 3.0 GPA and U.S. residency.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3.0/4.0 GPA required.
• Permanent U.S. resident with a valid driver’s license.
• Majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field.
• Freshman year completed or will be by time of co-op or internship.

Responsibilities

• Support mechanical reliability assignments to improve mill safety, efficiency, equipment performance, and cost effectiveness.
• Assist with capital projects from funding request through completion, including planning, estimating, engineering design exposure, contractor field oversight, and project coordination.
• Use tools and systems such as AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, process information systems, and PCA's CMMS program, Trident, to complete engineering and reliability work.
• Work with engineering, maintenance, operations, outside resources, and multi-disciplinary teams to coordinate improvement efforts and support mill operations.
