Job summary

The South Dakota Science and Technology Authority (SDSTA) seeks a Mechanical Engineer to provide engineering and management support for mechanical and industrial systems across its facilities, infrastructure, research programs, and operations.

Responsibilities include design, installation, operation, and maintenance of mechanical systems, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and oversight of crane and rigging maintenance as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering required.
• SD PE license preferred or commitment to obtain per SD licensing rules.
• Minimum of three years of mechanical engineering experience.
• Experience with large industrial/facility projects and underground operations.
• Experience with design, construction, management or operations in relevant areas.

Responsibilities

• Develop concepts for preliminary and detailed mechanical designs for surface and underground systems.
• Coordinate fabrication, installation, and maintenance of scientific equipment for government programs.
• Lead design and integration of test equipment and tooling.
• Participate in project planning and coordination among engineering and research teams.
• Evaluate mechanical components and coordinate vendor information for decisions.
• Support operations and maintenance strategies for safe, efficient function.
