Job summary

The Underground Mitigation Technician role at South Dakota Science and Technology Authority supports the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) by constructing, maintaining and repairing surface and underground structures to ensure a safe working environment and stable infrastructure.

Responsibilities include blueprint reading, rock bolt installation, jackleg operation, ventilation and water systems maintenance, cage/skip management, and careful material handling while adhering to SDSTA

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in general construction practices and blueprint reading.
  • Experience in mining or shaft inspection/repair preferred.
  • Experience operating heavy machinery and understanding safety policies.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and construct underground structures and systems.
  • Read blueprints and follow engineers' designs for proper placement.
  • Install rock bolts, operate jackleg machines, and manage underground equipment.
  • Manage cage/skip operations, including loading, capacity planning and safety notifications.
  • Prepare and manage materials, inventories, and supplies while ensuring safety compliance.
  • Perform other duties as needed and maintain reliable attendance.
