Job summary

Redwood Materials is seeking a Systems Engineer for Energy Storage to lead system engineering efforts in a fast-moving startup-like team. You will define requirements, down-select architectures, and coordinate across mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to deliver a cohesive system.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in design or system engineering, strong physics intuition, and experience with power electronics and Python/MATLAB modeling.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Mechanical Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 5+ years of design or system engineering experience.
• Strong first-principles physics understanding of electrical and mechanical systems.
• Experience with power electronics product development.
• Proficiency with system modeling tools (Python or Matlab).
• Experience with requirement management tools (Doors, Jama).
• Ability to write clear, testable engineering requirements and to communicate across teams.

Responsibilities

• Optimize architecture to achieve top-level product metrics such as cost, efficiency, energy/power density, and availability.
• Own system-level performance and develop subsystem and component requirements with design engineers.
• Perform system modeling, simulation, and testing to validate performance against requirements.
• Establish interface definitions across mechanical, electrical, and software teams.
• Support safety and reliability through DFMEAs, risk assessments, and hazard analyses.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards (UL).
