Job summary

Heaviside Industries in Los Angeles, CA is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer to own airframe structures, mechanisms, and payload packaging from concept to production.

You will lead structural design, perform hand calculations and FEA, ensure designs withstand launch/shock and comply with MIL-STD-810, and collaborate with in-house production teams to drive design-for-manufacture across composites and metals. A strong shop-floor presence is expected.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering required.
• 1–3 years of hands-on mechanical design experience.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD and production drawings with GD&T.
• Knowledge of machining, sheet metal, composites, or additive processes.

Responsibilities

• Own the mechanical design of munition airframe structures, mechanisms, and payload packaging from concept through production.
• Lead structural design and analysis — hand calculations and FEA — for airframes under loads and conditions.
• Design for the tactical environment: shock, vibration, thermal extremes, and moisture per MIL-STD-810.
• Drive design-for-manufacture across composites, machined metals, and additive processes.
• Own thermal management design for dense avionics and RF payloads.
• Develop single-use mechanisms: wing/fin deployment, tube-launch separation, folding aerosurfaces, actuators.
• Release production-ready drawings with GD&T per ASME Y14.5; mentor engineers.
