Job summary

Heaviside Industries in Los Angeles, CA, is seeking a senior aerodynamics leader to own the airframes design for precision munitions and drive high-fidelity analyses from concept to test. You will work across launch, cruise, and terminal flight, integrating propulsion and airframe effort.

The role requires expert CFD with STAR-CCM+, Fluent, OpenFOAM and low-order methods such as Missile DATCOM and AVL, plus wind tunnel planning and flight-test data correlation; a U.S. person under ITAR is needed.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of aerodynamics or flight sciences on missiles, munitions, military UAS, or tactical aircraft.
• Ownership of air vehicle aerodynamic design from concept through flight test.
• Expert CFD with STAR-CCM+, Fluent or OpenFOAM; low-order aero-prediction tools; know when to use each.
• Solid flight mechanics background and aero database generation for 6-DOF weapon sims.
• Experience with wind tunnel test planning, execution and data reduction.
• Fluent performance analysis for small, fast or long-endurance air vehicles under constraints.
• Bonus: high-subsonic/transonic munition aerodynamics or folding/tube-launched configurations.
• Bonus: correlating CFD and flight test data via parameter ID on defense programs.
• U.S. Person as defined by ITAR (22 CFR 120.62).

Responsibilities

• Own the aerodynamic design of airframes for precision munitions from concept to flight test.
• Lead aerodynamic analysis using low-order methods and CFD with wind tunnel and flight test data.
• Develop vehicle performance models for range, endurance, speed and terminal maneuver.
• Create stability and control derivatives and aero databases for GNC design.
• Lead propulsion-airframe integration for electric and small air-breathing propulsion.
• Plan and execute wind tunnel tests and instrumented flight tests at DoD ranges.
• Mentor engineers and set technical standards for analysis quality.
