Job summary

Ulysses in San Francisco is seeking an Electrical Engineer to own embedded electronics from schematics to production for surface and subsea robots. You’ll collaborate with mechanical and software teams to deliver manufacturable hardware built for harsh marine environments.

This role moves fast and requires hands-on hardware experience, strong fundamentals in embedded systems, and a track record shipping embedded electronics from concept to production.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on hardware experience with embedded electronics.
  • Experience shipping embedded electronics in real environments.
  • Proven ability to bring embedded systems from concept to production.
  • Strong understanding of analogue electronics — amplifiers and power converters.
  • Proficiency in high-speed PCB design and signal integrity testing.
  • Circuit analysis using SPICE and Python.
  • PCB rework with small components (0402 or smaller).
  • Strong embedded fundamentals: microcontrollers (STM32/Teensy/ESP) and C/C++.
  • ECAD proficiency (KiCad/Altium) with quick design iteration.
  • Comfortable integrating mixed-protocol systems (UART/CAN/USB/Ethernet).

Responsibilities

  • Architect and design embedded systems for robotic platforms, including sensing, compute, power distribution.
  • Prototype PCBs to production-ready boards for vehicle integration.
  • Write firmware for board bring-up, sensor integration, and diagnostics.
  • Design and validate power trees, battery integration, and charging paths.
  • Integrate sensors, comms modules, and actuators across protocols.
  • Create test plans and perform environmental and reliability testing.
  • DFM/DFT and production test fixture design for end-to-end testing.
  • Maintain schematics, layouts, BOMs, and bring-up guides.
