Job summary

Ulysses, a technology company building autonomous underwater drones, seeks a Software Engineer to own core platform software powering the Mako fleet. You will work across services, shore connections, and operator tools to make deployments reliable and observable.

You will collaborate with robotics and perception teams to harden systems, test in simulation, and travel for field tests in diverse locations. Strong Linux, distributed systems, and hands-on hardware experience are essential.

Qualifications

5+ years building production software.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
End-to-end ownership of a software system (architecture, testing, deployment, on-call).
Built, shipped, and maintained reliable software in the field on remote hardware and unreliable links.
Strong Linux fluency.
Experience with distributed systems, message-passing, containerized services, and networking fundamentals.
Able to travel internationally and domestically for field tests.
Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, firmware, and robotics engineers to integrate software with complex hardware.

Responsibilities

Deploy and maintain the software platform powering the fleet of autonomous underwater robots.
Develop and own end-to-end architecture, testing, deployment, and on-call support.
Build systems for telemetry, logging, alerting, and remote access across distributed services.
Design high-bandwidth, low-latency communication between vehicles and ground control.
Extend simulation and testing infrastructure to validate software changes before field deployment.
Create dashboards and ops tooling for operators and customers.
