Job summary

Amentum Nuclear Projects in Oak Ridge, Tennessee is seeking a Mid-Level Mechanical Engineer to lead design of building mechanical systems for industrial and government facilities. You will mentor teams and ensure code‑compliant, high‑quality solutions across HVAC, plumbing, and piping designs.

Qualifications

• B.S. Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
• 5+ years in industrial/government design of mechanical, HVAC, plumbing systems.
• Proven ability to lead teams within budget and schedule constraints.
• Proficiency with Carrier HAP, Trane TRACE, PipeFlo, AutoCAD, MicroStation.
• USA citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Design HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems including B31.3 process piping.
• Serve as technical authority for mechanical design within project scope.
• Review calculations, layouts, specs, and drawings for quality.
• Apply advanced engineering judgment to resolve complex design issues.
• Support planning including scope definition, equipment sizing, schedule development, and budget control.
• Coordinate mechanical designs with structural, electrical, architectural, and process disciplines.
• Apply applicable codes, standards (IMC, NFPA, ASHRAE).
• Interface with clients and stakeholders as a senior technical contributor.
• Provide senior-level support during procurement and construction phases.
• Mentor and guide engineers and designers on codes and best practices.
• Ensure compliance with engineering and quality procedures.
