Job summary

RTX is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern in the US (MASS, TEWKSBURY) to support the Hardware Engineering Team within the CPR department. You will help ensure producibility, integration, and cost management across a range of naval power and defense systems projects.

Responsibilities include requirement flow-down, verification artifact creation, and coordination with electrical/mechanical SMEs while preparing design reviews and customer sell‑offs.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing Bachelor's or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering and enrolled through internship/co-op.
  • Minimum of 60 credit hours by start of internship/co-op.
  • Experience developing and delivering presentations (verbal and/or written).

Responsibilities

  • Flow down hardware requirements reflecting system level requirements.
  • Verify planning and artifact generation for electrical and mechanical hardware.

What You Will Do

As a Mechanical Engineer Intern, you will support the Hardware Engineering Team inproviding engineering design & development services to a wide range of products within Raytheon. The Critical Item Production Readiness (CPR) department is dedicated to ensuring that every product we develop is designed with its entire production lifecycle in mind. By integrating principles of manufacturability, assembly, scalability, and cost management, we aim to achieve production excellence while meeting the highest standards of quality and reliability.

You would apply your skills to contribute to the requirement flow down, verification, environment stress screening and/or design-to-unit production cost (DTUPC) management for hardware in programs for Naval Power and Land and Air Defense Systems strategic business units. Working as an advocate for Hardware Engineering, you will coordinate between Systems Engineering and the Hardware Team to allocate the requirements, compile verification artifacts working with electrical (e.g. power/digital/RF/…) and mechanical (e.g. structural/thermal/material…) subject matter experts and develop compliance packages for design reviews and product requirements “sell off” with the customer. Similarly, for DTUPC tasking, you will coordinate between the Affordability Engineer and the Hardware team on critical items and technology to adjudicate cost reduction opportunities resulting in cost reduction initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Flow down, allocation and derivation of electrical and mechanical hardware requirements that reflect the system level requirements.
  • Verification planning and artifact generation for electrical and mechanical hardware requirements
  • Determine gaps for existing/non-developed hardware against requirements
  • Apply Design to Cost best practices on development programs
  • Training and application of RTX tools including PTC Windchill PDM and IBM DOORS
  • Collaboration with coworkers and multi-discipline teams.
  • Training in Raytheon processes and procedures
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Must be pursuing Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co‑op session.
  • Must have a minimum of 60 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co‑op session.
  • Experience developing and delivering presentations (verbal and/or written)

  • Prior RTX internship, co‑op, or work experience.
  • Prior engineering project or internship experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Office or other presentation tools

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
