DEXIS, part of Envista, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer III to support and lead mechanical product design across the lifecycle for global markets. You’ll develop assemblies, fixtures, and related specifications while balancing safety, reliability, cost, and manufacturability.

The role requires hands-on testing, rapid prototyping, and collaboration with Regulatory, Quality, Operations, and Suppliers to drive design changes and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • 10+ years of mechanical product design experience
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD and 2D drawings (SolidWorks preferred, Creo)
  • Experience with design control, risk management, and cross-functional product development
  • Strong written and verbal communication, mentoring abilities

Responsibilities

A friendly and open atmosphere helps to foster strong personal and professional relationships across the organization.Position DescriptionThe Mechanical Engineer III is an experienced individual contributor responsible for supporting existing products through their product life cycle and leading or supporting the development of new mechanical products, subsystems, fixtures, and product improvements for domestic and global markets. The role works cross-functionally with Regulatory, Marketing, Quality, Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, vendors, and other engineering disciplines to drive product changes, design control deliverables, sustaining engineering support, continuous improvement, and design transfer activities.This position requires in-depth mechanical engineering knowledge and practical product development experience. The Mechanical Engineer III works independently with minimal guidance on complex assignments, applies best practices and knowledge of internal and external business issues to improve products and processes, and serves as a technical resource for colleagues with less experience. The role is intended for an engineer who can demonstrate ownership, sound judgment, cross-functional influence, and leadership qualities that support future progression into a people-management or technical-leadership role.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Leads or supports engineering projects from initial concept and project specification through design, prototype build, verification, design transfer, manufacturing implementation, and post-launch support.Develops mechanical designs, assemblies, components, fixtures, tooling, and related specifications while balancing safety, reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, cost, and user needs.Works collaboratively with cross-functional teams to translate customer, regulatory, quality, manufacturing, and business requirements into practical mechanical design solutions.Prepares and maintains engineering documentation for multiple audiences, including design inputs, design outputs, drawings, bills of material, test protocols, test reports, engineering analyses, ECNs, and design history file content as applicable.Participates in and may lead cross-functional design reviews, FMEA activities, risk analysis, usability or human factors reviews, troubleshooting sessions, and technical decision reviews.Develops verification strategies and writes or reviews test protocols for mechanical products, components, assemblies, fixtures, and design changes.Performs hands-on testing, prototyping, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and design iteration using engineering judgment and data from multiple sources.Interprets legacy designs and performs sustaining engineering activities, including product support, component obsolescence resolution, supplier changes, value engineering, and continuous improvement.Interfaces with manufacturing, subcontractors, suppliers, and international design teams in design transfer, technical support, and vendor coordination situations.Designs, fabricates, or coordinates test parts, equipment, jigs, and fixtures using internal resources, suppliers, basic machine tools, and rapid prototyping methods as appropriate.Supports Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance activities by integrating applicable design control, risk management, regulatory, and quality system requirements into engineering work.Facilitates or contributes to the ECN process for cross-functional workstreams and ensures assigned engineering deliverables are completed with appropriate quality, traceability, and timeliness.Prioritizes and manages multiple projects or activities with limited supervision, elevating risks, tradeoffs, and resource needs in a timely and professional manner.Acts as a resource for engineers, co-ops, interns, and colleagues with less experience by providing technical guidance, peer review, coaching, and support without direct supervisory authority.Demonstrates leadership behaviors consistent with future management potential, including accountability, clear communication, collaboration, constructive feedback, and the ability to build consensus across functions.Supports and contributes to continuous improvement and Envista Business System activities such as Daily Management, Problem Solving Process, Visual Project Management, and standard work improvement as applicable.Completes other duties as assigned.Leadership and Management Readiness Expectations:Models accountability by owning commitments, following through on deliverables, and communicating risks or decisions early.Builds trust with cross-functional partners by listening, clarifying requirements, and aligning technical recommendations with customer, quality, regulatory, operational, and business needs.Provides informal guidance to less-experienced engineers and helps raise the technical capability of the team through mentoring, peer review, and practical coaching.Uses data, structured problem solving, and professional judgment to resolve complex issues and drive timely decisions.Demonstrates readiness for future people leadership by showing consistency, composure, documentation discipline, prioritization, and the ability to influence outcomes without formal authority.Job requirementsMinimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical discipline.10+ years of relevant experience in mechanical product design, sustaining engineering, new product development, design transfer, manufacturing support, or a closely related engineering role;
