Mechanical Engineer II

Department: Engineering

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Burlington, MA

Compensation: $90,000 - $115,000 / year

Description
Why should you join our success story?

Based on patented technology developed at MIT, Harvard Medical School and by the Company, Myomo develops and markets the MyoPro® product line of lightweight, non-invasive, powered arm braces (orthoses) to restore function in paralyzed or weakened arms and hands of individuals that have suffered a stroke, spinal cord, or nerve injury. (E.g. brachial plexus injury or other neuro-muscular disabilities.) It is the only device that, sensing a patient’s own neurological signals through non-invasive wearable sensors, can restore the ability to use their arms and hands so that they can live independently, increase their quality of life, reduce cost of care, and return to work. Published clinical research shows a clinically significant instantaneous reduction in upper extremity impairment with the MyoPro. Our technology has been referred by leading-edge rehabilitation facilities including Mayo Clinic, Kennedy Krieger Institute, Cleveland Clinic, Loma Linda Medical Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, numerous VA Hospitals, and more. Myomo is headquartered in Burlington, Massachusetts, with sales and clinical professionals across the U.S.

What we’re looking for:

The Mechanical Engineer II will support the design and development of powered orthotics for the MyoPro Product Line. Keys to success will be the ability to work effectively both collaboratively and as an individual contributor, along with strong communication skills, diligence, and attention to detail balanced with productivity-orientation.

How You'll Drive Impact:
  • Support subsystem design and continual improvement of Myomo’s robotic exoskeletons, enabling users to regain arm and hand function.
  • Make reliable contributions to mechanical and electromechanical subsystems from concept through production, balancing performance, cost, and reliability.
  • Develop CAD assemblies and drawings in SolidWorks to transition early-stage concepts into manufacturable designs.
  • Interact with suppliers to obtain quotes and assess component manufacturability from a wide variety of sources, including CNC machining, sheet metal, textiles, and injection molding.
  • Collaborate with electrical & controls engineers in efforts to develop high-performance portable sensing and actuation systems.
  • Assist in prototype construction, critically evaluating performance using numerical and qualitative techniques.
  • Perform drafting, tolerancing, and DFM for low-mid volume manufacture.
What You’ll Bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 2-5 years’ professional years' experience including mechanical design ownership from concept through production.
  • Strong knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), design for manufacturability (DFM), and related mechanical-engineering best practices.
  • Hands‑on experience with rapid prototyping and at least one relevant production process, such as CNC machining, injection molding, sheet‑metal fabrication, or production‑grade additive manufacturing.
  • Comfort in a fast‑paced environment, with the ability to prioritize and adapt when needed.
  • Ability to meet deadlines with specified time constraints, with flexibility to both work well independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent written/verbal, interpersonal, and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience working in a regulated or safety‑critical industry, such as medical devices, aerospace, aviation, or automotive. Medical-device experience is strongly preferred.
Domain Focus:

Successful candidates will bring demonstrated depth in at least one of the following areas.

  • Human‑centered mechanical product design, industrial design, or electromechanical product integration; (emphasizing wearability, user experience, fit, and ergonomics)
  • Parametric CAD design and development of scalable, configurable models supporting patient‑specific customization;
  • Integration of mechanical designs with actuators, sensors, motors, transmissions, or compact electronic systems. (Emphasizing mechatronic architecture and power transmission)
