Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Mechanical Engineer in Chicago to apply thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics within power plant and oil & gas projects. You will contribute to system engineering, analyses, and deliverables across multiple teams.

The role emphasizes sizing of equipment and piping, technical specifications, and drawings, with potential travel and a hybrid in-office schedule requiring 3 days on site.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Aerospace Engineering, or similar
• Strong academic background with interest in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics
• Experience with CAD software, such as AutoCAD
• Knowledge of design techniques for production of technical plans and drawings

Responsibilities

• Prepare calculations to size equipment, piping, valves, and inline components
• Prepare technical specifications and perform technical bid reviews
• Prepare technical studies and reports for client reviews
• Prepare Piping & Instrumentation drawings, equipment lists, line lists, valve lists, and material lists
• Coordinate with mechanical system designers to develop piping drawings, isometrics, plans, sections, elevations, and pipe supports
• Travel to client/vendor offices or plant sites for design reviews and field verification
