TAP Engineering LLC in Columbia, MD is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design and develop mechanical systems for electronic products. You will work hands-on with cross-functional teams, from concept through prototyping and design verification, applying best practices in electronics packaging and manufacturability.

The role emphasizes collaboration with electrical engineers, attention to detail, and effective documentation; 1–5 years experience and a Secret clearance willingness are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 1–5 years of relevant experience (internships, co-ops, or academic projects accepted).
• Working knowledge of SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
• Basic understanding of thermal principles and heat dissipation in electronic systems.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical parts, enclosures, and assemblies for electronic systems using SolidWorks.
• Create and update 3D models, 2D drawings, and BOMs.
• Support thermal and structural evaluations through simulation, analysis, or testing.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers to ensure PCB integration, fit, and mechanical clearances.
• Assist with prototype builds, lab testing, and design verification activities.
• Participate in design reviews and contribute to product improvement discussions.
• Apply best practices in electronics packaging, manufacturability, and material selection.
