MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the necessary knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering field; At least 3-10 years relevant experience for an Associate Engineer and 10+ years of relevant experience for a Senior engineer.
License/Certificate/Registration Requirements:
  • Driver's License: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License may be required at the time of appointment. Failure to obtain or maintain such required license(s) may be cause for disciplinary action. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical disability will be considered for accommodation on a case-by-case basis.
  • Possession and proof of a good driving record as evidenced by freedom from multiple or serious traffic violations or accidents for at least two (2) years.
  • Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Mechanical Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration.
Job Description:

The duties listed are illustrative only and are not meant to be a complete and exhaustive listing of all duties and responsibilities. Under general direction of the Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Engineer performs a wide variety of technical field and office engineering work related to various activities, programs, and facilities. Responsible for all mechanical design and engineering support for installation, modification, maintenance, and testing of mechanical systems and equipment at Authority facilities. Coordinates major mechanical repairs, modifications, or testing with various agencies and divisions. Provides administrative duties, including coordination of departmental maintenance and operations, as required.

Examples of Duties:
  • Develops cost estimates, designs, plans, and technical specifications for repair, maintenance, monitoring, and construction projects.
  • Reviews troubleshooting or test data and recommends repairs.
  • Updates electronic drawings and technical documentation.
  • Prepares requests for proposals and contract documents for outside contractors/consultants.
  • Provides project inspection, coordination, management, and contract administration.
  • Prepares reports, budget estimates, and informational data.
  • Meets with outside engineers/consultants.
  • Prepares material specifications and orders materials.
  • Participates in development and management of the Authority’s 10-Year Projects/Programs.
  • Serves as Authority engineer on projects.
  • Prepares and files designs, plans, and drawings.
  • Coordinates with utilities, agencies, and developers.
  • Represents the Authority in meetings and conferences.
  • Prepares correspondence related to engineering projects.
  • Supports presentations to the Board of Directors.
  • Develops and documents standards, guidelines, and productivity indicators.
  • Attends public meetings as required.
  • Other related duties.
Knowledge of:

Principles and practices of mechanical engineering, design and maintenance of systems, project management, applicable codes, and software applications.

Ability to:

Read blueprints, design projects, analyze data, develop plans, create drawings, manage projects, and communicate effectively.
