Powerus is seeking a Mechanical Engineer in Rock Hill, SC to design handheld controller enclosures, sealing, thermal paths, and internal structures. You will collaborate from concept through tooling to production, ensuring manufacturability and reliability in rugged environments.

The role requires a BS in mechanical engineering, enclosure design experience, and proficiency with SolidWorks, Creo, or NX. US person status is required due to ITAR/EAR controls; on-site work in Rock Hill, SC is

Competenze

• Experience designing plastic or metal enclosures for a shipped product.
• Experience with injection molding design and tooling suppliers.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks, Creo, or NX.
• Proficiency in tolerance analysis and GD&T.
• U.S. Person status required due to ITAR/EAR controls.

Position Overview

Powerus is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design enclosures, sealing, thermal management, and internal structures for Powerus handheld ground controllers.

Key Responsibilities

• Design injection-molded and machined enclosure parts for handheld controllers
• Design sealing for ingress protection, including gaskets, membranes, and connector sealing
• Design internal structures, board mounting, battery retention, and cable routing
• Perform thermal analysis and design heat paths for processor, radio, and battery
• Integrate antennas, displays, joysticks, and buttons with electrical and industrial design
• Work with tooling suppliers on design for manufacturing and first-article inspection
• Run drop, vibration, ingress, and temperature testing
• Release drawings, GD&T, and assembly instructions to production

Qualifications

• Must be located in the United States, within commuting distance of Rock Hill, SC
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
• Experience designing plastic or metal enclosures for a shipped product
• Experience with injection molding design and tooling suppliers
• Proficiency in SolidWorks, Creo, or NX
• Proficiency in tolerance analysis and GD&T
• U.S. Person status required (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)); this role involves access to ITAR- and EAR-controlled technical data

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with handheld, rugged, or consumer electronics products
• Experience designing for IP67 or MIL-STD-810
• Experience with thermal simulation
• Experience with overmolding or two-shot molding
• Active or prior U.S. security clearance

What We Look For

Candidates should have taken an enclosure through tooling into production and be able to describe a change made after first-article or drop testing.
